Kerala Lotteries are organized by the Government of Kerala under the Department of Kerala State Lotteries. The lottery results of Kerala are first published in the official portal keralalotteries.com.

Here is the step-by-step procedure to check the result on the official page.

  • Visit the official portal of Kerala Lotteries i.e., www.keralalotteries.om
  • Scroll down the page, you will find the button “Lottery Result” in the middle of the page, click on it
  • A new page opens with all the latest drawn result
  • Search for your number and click on “View
  • A new page opens with all the winners
  • Check for your number
  • If you won the lottery, then surrender the lottery ticket to the office of “The directorate of State Lotteries, Kerala” within 30 days

The Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries

Kerala is acclaimed for making its first presence in the lottery segment in India. Gifted with the title God’s Own Country, the Kerala government, under the supervision of the finance minister Late. P. K. Kunja Sahib set up a lottery business in 1967.

The finance department claims the lottery to be a nontax revenue for the state. In addition, it provides income to commoners and thereby generates employment opportunities for individuals.

The department of lotteries came into existence under the leadership of the late Shri. P. K. Seydu Mohammed on September 01, 1967, and the first lottery ticket was put on sale on November 01, 1967. Other states, began to follow the footsteps of Kerala Lottery and started their state-owned lotteries.

Despite many states have opted for the lottery business, Kerala state has attained the top position for several reasons. The Kerala government takes better care of its lottery agents through a welfare fund and in addition, the results hold credibility, transparency, and reliability.

Earlier, the department was operated under the department of finance and now the department of lotteries is operated under the control of the department of taxes.

Lottery Ticket Reach among Masses:

  1. In Kerala the lottery ticket began with a price of INR 1.00 and the first prize money that was established was INR 50,000. The first draw was conducted in 60 days on January 26, 1968.
  2. Currently, the department of lotteries rolls out seven weekly lotteries such as Pratheeksha, Dhanasree, Win-Win, Akshaya,  Bhagyanidhi, Karunya, and Pournami lotteries, and six bumper lotteries.
  3. The department of Lotteries has employed 465 employees and operates under the directorate located at Vikas Bhavan at Thiruvananthapuram. Further, to conduct effective operations, the department has established centers in 14 districts, and a regional deputy director’s office in Ernakulam.
  4. Besides its growing popularity has led the lottery department to establish 3 centers in talukas,  they are Punalur ( Kollam district), Kattappana ( Idukki district), and Thamaassery ( Kozhikode district).

Organization Structure

  1. Established under the control of the department of taxes, the Kerala lottery department has employed 465 employees and the entire organization has its man force distributed under various heads.
  2. The state lotteries department is headed by the director, additional director, and joint director. Further, the directorate has 3 deputy directors and four district lottery officers ( HQ) in various administrative positions. In addition, the directorate consists of a finance officer, an accounts officer, a publicity officer, and two senior auditors.
  3. The department of lotteries appoints finance officers/senior auditors/public relationship officers on deputation from Government Secretariat/Accountant General/Government Secretariat.

Sales and Prize Sections:

  1. Out of three deputy directors of the department of lotteries, two deputy directors are appointed to supervise the functioning of the lotteries. The third deputy director controls the printing issues.
  2. The agents are taken care of through the Agents and Sellers Welfare Fund and an accounts officer ( welfare) are appointed to fulfill the purpose.

Prize Disbursement on Sale of the Lottery

  1. The district lottery offices disburse the prize amount up to INR 100000.00  and here you can purchase lottery tickets, and agents can apply for registration/renewal.
  2. Likewise, the directorate that is located at Thiruvananthapuram conducts functions such as disbursement of high prize values of INR 100000.00 and above. In addition, issuing agencies located outside Kerala, general administration, etc.

Agency Guidelines/Lottery Distribution Network 

The Department of Lotteries has a wide distribution network consisting of more than 35,000 agents and above 100,000 retailers. The guidelines for starting an agency or becoming an agent are very simple and that too without any substantial investment.

  1. The agency is awarded to Indian individuals with no skill sets to earn their livelihood and you must be above the age of 18 years.
  2. You must fill in the application form, remit a fee of INR 200.00 and submit two passport-size photos. You can make the submission at the directorate, or district lottery offices to enroll for the agency. 
  3. You must seek to renew after a period of one year and then the renewal fee will be INR 50.00 per year. Another kind of agency known as the casual agency can be obtained from the district lottery offices at a nominal fee of INR 50.00.

  1. The Directorate and district offices do offer agencies and each district office has one specific code. It is made available in the Agent’s code, they do start at the beginning of the agency code. The office code is exhibited as shown in the tabular column with fields office, and code.
  2. To restrict the fraud practices by the agents, the government of Kerala has passed a government G.O. According to the government order, GO (P) No. 14/2011/TD dated 28.1.2011, the Director is allotted with powers to suspend or cancel an agency. It can be done so if the agent or seller acts in contravention of the provisions of the act or the rules that are detrimental otherwise.
  3. If any such action is taken by the directorate then the agent can approach to appeal the move at the Secretary, Taxes Department within 30 days time.

Limitations of Agents on Selling Lottery Tickets

Lottery tickets are never put on sale over the Internet. Any unusual means of selling tickets is permissible only after seeking prior permission from the Director.

The agents, sub-agents, and the general public can have lottery tickets only after the receipt of the ticket’s cost.

The agents can procure tickets by remitting cash, DD, exchanging prize-winning tickets, or obtaining a bank guarantee.

There are more than 35000 agents and 1 Lakh retailers working under the department of Lotteries. The wide distribution network of agents has simplified the application process.

How to become a Lottery Agent?

Anybody can become a lottery agent without any investment. The following is the procedure to apply for a lottery agent.

  • The applicant must be a major (18+ Years)
  • Download the application form from the below-given button
  • Fill out the application form and attach the passport-size photographs
  • Pay the application fee of Rs. 200/-
  • Submit the filled application form at the Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries (or) at the District Lottery Offices
  • You can become an official Lottery agent for 1 year
  • The agents have to renew their agency every year by paying a nominal fee of Rs. 50/-

Note: At present, the agency applications are accepted at District Lottery offices only. Applicants are advised to visit the nearest district offices for submitting the application.

Lottery Agent’s Welfare Fund Scheme

  1. An agent’s welfare is taken care of by the Lottery agents welfare fund scheme and for that, you should register at the district lottery office by remitting a monthly subscription fee.
  2. Initiated in 1991, the lottery agents’ welfare fund scheme was transformed into Kerala State Lottery Agents and Sellers Welfare Fund.
  3. In 14 districts, offices of welfare fund schemes are located and in addition, a functioning office is headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
  4. You can draw the facility provided by the welfare fund through schemes/benefits and complete information on the fund is available on the official website.

Kerala Lottery Prize Structure

  1. The Department of State Lotteries has been rolling out six weekly lotteries, two biweekly lotteries, and six bumper tickets until Aug/2010.
  2. But in compliance with the judgment of the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala in WP(C) 25632/2010, the Government has instructed vide GO (MS) No.223/10/TD dated 31.8.2010 to reduce the number of weekly lotteries to one, retaining the six bumper lotteries per year.
  3. Accordingly, the department was conducting only one weekly lottery namely Win-Win every Wednesday besides the six  Bumper Lottery per year from September 2010 onwards.

Printing & Distribution of Lottery Ticket

  1. All the activities relating to the printing and distribution of tickets are under the direct control of the  Government. The number of tickets to be printed and the number of series is decided by the Director.
  2. The directorate performs the printing and distribution of the tickets for all lotteries. The high-value prize amounts often referred to as Bumper are printed at the government-owned press.

Kerala Lottery Approval & Pricing:

  1. The director of printing supervises the ongoing activity such as ticket designing under panel artists. To keep the tickets secured and intact, the printing machine adds security features such as random numbering, and barcodes are marked on the tickets.
  2. The ticket is detailed with the lottery name, number, date of the draw, ticket number, and so on. On the backside of the lottery, you can find the prize structure, the procedure to claim the prize money, and publicity matters.

  1. The government gives the prize without any tax deductions for a cash prize of up to INR 10000.00.
  2. Any Prize amount more than it shall be taxed at 30 percent and the deducted amount shall be deposited in the Central government account.
  3. The agent prize claim is 10 percent of the prize won, and apart from that, no other surcharge and educational cess are deducted and it is in accordance with the Income Tax rules.
  4. The individuals who have won the prize shall collect their prize amount ( from 1 lakh to 20 lakhs)/ above 20 lakhs from the deputy director (prize)/ Director.
