The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) is a department which is under the Prime Minister of India with headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. DAE was started in permanent basis in 1954 by a Presidential Order. DAE is being engaged in the development of nuclear power technology, applications of radiation technologies in the fields of agriculture, medicine, industry and forming an essential foundation on research. DAE consist of five centres which give under research, three organisations related to economic activity concerned with the processing of raw materials and manufacturing of goods in factories.

Constructing and controlling the functioning of research reactors for the production of radioisotopes, develop other sources of radiation such as accelerators and lasers, and developing and deploying radiation technology applications in the fields of medicine, agriculture, industry and forming an essential foundation in research.

Growing advanced technologies such as accelerators, lasers, supercomputers, robotics, areas related to Fusion research, strategic materials and instrumentation, and encouraging the transfer of technology to industry.

To do a particular research in nuclear energy and related realms of science; Interacting with universities and academic institutions; giving assistance to research development projects having a weight of DAE’s programs and cooperation between nations in advanced areas related to research and contribution to national security.
